Are these being built in the USA or elsewhere?

What are they using for engines? The original engines weren't very reliable or long lived.

  1. Five are being built by the ME-262 Project based in Washington state. It's an awesome project that's in its final stages. One is already flying.

They're using the G.E. J85 turbojet. It's a reliable power plant that's got the right size and  higher power output than the original Jumo engines. The J85 has been used in many other aircraft like the Gates Learjet and an afterburning model was used in the F-5. The higher output will mean better takeoff and climb performance and the better efficiency will give the new 262s a range of around 1000 miles. Here's the official website address for the ME-262 project at stormbirds.com. They've got all the info you could want about the replica production.

Also, you can keep up with a BF-109 and FW-190 restoration project at the stormbirds website as well.

  2. I have wonder the same thing and thought the jets used on a Lear jet would be a good substitute. or some other similar plane as you want to keep the performance about the same as far a thrust goes. I don't think anyone is building Replicas of this plane.

  3. Paine Field Washington, J-85 engines I think
