Me Buddy carrying highest odds for Haley, Callum & Neve's Grandads 70th Birthday Stakes at Sheffield
Me Buddy is not a recent winner, but that does not shake bookmakers’ faith in his abilities. The brindle dog will be in action in the Haley, Callum & Neve's Grandads 70th Birthday Stakes, to be held at Sheffield on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
The hounds will be allowed to step out on the track at 12:15 GMT. The Grade Open Race (OR) will be run across 280 metres, and the ultimate champion will walk away with a cash prize worth £200.
Today’s line-up includes: Me Buddy, Two For Atanner, Stepaside Eagle, Peggys Way, River Fortune and Noelles Hero.
The bookies have every bit of reason to rate Me Buddy highly for this battle. He has been performing consistently since the start of 2012. The dog sealed his last victory on January 14, when he defeated Lil Risky by a length’s margin.
Me Buddy’s strategy to run on inside rail of the track will be very crucial. Although he was unable to produce a winning performance during his last three outings, he performed decently to retain a lot of support.
In his most recent race on March 08, M. Dartnall’s trainee secured a place among top three by 3¾ lengths.
Among his opposition, Two For Atanner looks the biggest threat. He is not one of the consistent hounds in the town, but his fresh success would have pumped up his confidence to some extent.
At the start of this month, Run On Boy’s son out of Bengal Lou grabbed top slot by three and a quarter lengths. Since he is a recent winner, his prior record will not matter in today’s race.
Stepaside Eagle is being considered another major player. The white and black dog was unable to hold first position in his last race, but his penultimate trip was impressive. On March 08, the J. Smith-trained sealed victory by a head distance.
River Fortune is also a recent winner, but his inconsistency might make the punters a bit hesitant.
Two For Atanner and Stepaside Eagle will definitely fancy their chances. Yet, Me Buddy is worth chancing. Despite the fact that he is coming to Sheffield after a decent break, the brindle dog knows this track well.
