Me and a couple of my friends have started an organization to help raise money for orphanages in china.?

Question

I was just wondering how i could get the money directly to the orphanage. Also, if i send it through the mail, will the government steal it? How can i make sure it gets there safely?

This is a very serious question and please give me a serious answer. This means a lot to me and the orphans in China.

you could send a check, that would make it harder for some random person to steal.

This is one of the things you should have thought of before you started.

We help China enough.  They are now a richer country than we are.

Charity begins at home.  Find an agency you like in your neighborhood.

I commend you and your friends for wanting to help people who are worse off than you are.

I would discuss with the orphanage their financial situation.  They may should have a bank that you can transfer the funds to or a payment service that you can send the funds to them.  I would not send through the mail as that is unsafe within the states, going outside of the states could be worse.

do you have a friend that's going to be going to china? you can always give it to missionaries that go there.

I'm sure the government wouldn't take it. My parents send money back to China, and our relatives still receieve the money

There are actually about 300,000 orphans in China, NOT 15 million. (I have no idea where you got that number. There aren't even 15million orphans in the whole world combined.) Also, they are mostly orphaned because in the Chinese culture, the families value boys over girls. This is why there are SO many girls for adoption there and it's difficult to find a baby boy to adopt. Very few are up for adoption due to the "one per family" law. Please do a bit more research before you start fundraising. I would hate to see that you're spreading untrue facts.

But that said, good for you trying to do something worthwhile. Ignore the others who say to give in your own country and not outside. Someone has to help them, right? So I'm glad to see you trying to do something.

I wouldn't send the money through the mail. I seriously doubt the gov't will take it, but still, it's not a safe way to send money. Instead, try a wire transfer or bank transfer. I assume you have a contact in one particular orphanage - this is one it sounds like. So get their bank info from them and do it that way.

If you don't have a contact, find an organization that raises money for the orphans and donate through them. Sending money directly to an orphanage has its own set of problems - many are corrupt and the people who run the orphanage keep the money for themselves instead of using it for the kids.
