Question:

Me and my boyfriend are trying to find low income apartments where we live but having troubles...?

We live in he Grand Rapids area of Michigan and want to find place o live possibly as soon as we can but we can't find anything, can anybody help us by giving us any websites to look at or any number to call? Any other advice and help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Try www.realtor.com they have a section just for rentals and you can search by location and price. Good Luck!


  2. Call the housing authority.   If you qualify for low income housing they can provide you with a list.    There may be a waiting list, 2-3 years for them, but that is where you find which apartments are participating.

  3. You and your boyfriend are not eligible for low-income or subsidized or Section 8 housing.  Those are for elderly and disabled people first, and they get priority on any waiting lists.  You have two able-bodied workers in your household, therefore twice the earning capacity of a single person.  Get jobs and learn how to manage your money.  Grand Rapids is not a particularly expensive area to live.

    If the two of you earn only $8/hr, that's $640/wk gross, so you can manage rents in the $650-900 range, which should be ample for a studio or one BR in your area.  (I know people paying $1000 for a studio on less income than that, but it is in a high-cost, high-tax state).

    And if you are earning less than $10/hr get some education and skills instead of doing scutwork.
