  1. Unless you are independently weathly, please don't come over with your plan as it stands.

If you are going to be living out of your car and selling items out of your van, you're basically telling us that you're going to be homeless.  We do not need anymore homeless people here in Hawaii (we have enough of them to deal with already!)

If you park at a beach, you will not be able to stay parked there overnight in most parks.  The City and State are cracking down on people doing what you are doing and parks are often closed after sundown.  If you are spotted, you will be fined and possibly arrested.  Your car will be impounded and you will have to pay to get it out.

Not to mention, where are you going to take a shower and use the bathroom?  All beaches in Hawaii are public and local authorities frown heavily on homeless people using the public bathrooms and showers for anything more than rinsing off after the beach and changing your clothes.  Besides that, the water is not heated so is often very cold!

PLEASE......rethink this plan of yours......while it's an exciting plan, it's not feasible legally.

    Good luck!

  2. If your mind is made up and you are really going to do this, Oahu is your best bet.  But!!!  Really the only place you could live in your van on the beach is the leeward/west coast.  And good luck finding a spot because the beaches on this side of the island are FULL.  No, not full of people enjoying the beautiful beach, but full of homeless camps with all their tents blocking the view, c**p piled up outside of their tents, dogs chained up, and tons and tons of all their trash.  Oh yeah, and all the ones who sit on the side of the road trying to sell you meth.  You can 'camp' there legally as long as you obtain a permit.  But you would have to move from beach to beach to avoid the 'no overnight camping due to park maintainance 2 nights a week.  These permits are free but first come, first serve.  You will NOT make enough money no matter how well you make your things, and for 2 main reasons.  People are not likely to buy your goods because you will be perceived as a homeless bum.  Everyone here thinks all the homeless are hooked on meth and you will be lumped into that. Reason #2 it is so expensive here.  Milk really is $7 a gallon, and gas is over $4.  You would have to both have jobs and try to sell your stuff on the side if you ever want to live somewhere other than the van.  By the way, a crappy one bedroom apt is over $1000/month here.

I moved here 6 month ago in hopes of a laid back island lifestyle.  I was crazy!  You can't escape the rat race unless you leave the US and go to a smaller less developed country.

I am not trying to paint a picture of Hawaii being a terrible place to go, but it is not what most people from the mainland think it is once you get out of Honolulu.  Yes, the beaches are beautiful and the aloha spirit is in SOME places, but it is not all its cracked up to be.

  3. i dont know if you have been there or not but theres a lot of homeless people there soo becare...the parks are filled with them,, and the beachs,,,good look...do  your homework first...this is true cuz the high cost of living and if you lose everything in Hawaii you have no where to goo and your stuck there..lol

  4. Ah, that seems like a well thought out plan.  Very intricate and flawless.

    Let's see

$30 dollars a day for food.

$60 for gas for about a week or two

    $10 for drinks/snacks

    $100 miscellaneous

$x*x for the tickets you'll be receiving

I hope those are some Gucci bags you are handmaking.

  5. lol do you know how much food has gone  up in hawaii  cos of fuel do you homework

  7. I would definitely re-think your plans. The police are cracking down a ton on people trying to live at the beaches and the last thing you would need is to be living in jail instead because you cannot afford the bail. Also the price of living is so high and the tourists have really shyed away from buying goods from people that are living on the beach. I would give this idea another thought and maybe consider something else.

  8. Well I like your thinking to save money but Hawaii I'm afraid is all claimed land much where I live.  If you park and live like a homeless person.  The police will just tell you to move or something.  I don't live in Hawaii but at least that's what they do in my state.

  9. Who knows?  Maybe it will work out for you.  (tongue rather firmly planted in cheek here)  But there are a number of problems with your plan.  The first being that it is illegal.  The second is that people in Hawaii who are homeless because of bad financial times (and there are plenty of homeless folks who hold down jobs, but still can't secure a place to live) tend to have a bit of resentment against people who come from other places and essentially choose to be homeless.  There is plenty of potential for trouble with the locals under those circumstances, and it could be ugly.  The third issue is that  it is extremely expensive to live here &  no matter how good you are at making stuff, it will still be a very hard way to get by.

All in all, it would be hard to recommend the plan.  And as the first poster said, you need a plan for how to get home if things don't work out the way you hope.  Please have your parents or a trusted friend hold on to enough money that you can get back to the mainland.  It will be too easy to spend it if you keep it yourself.

  10. I hope this is a joke.  Who actually wants to be homeless.

  11. Not sure about that, sound fun and adventurous , but I wanted to go camping in Hawaii... I called the camp ground and they didn't even recommend it. They said it was dangerous to camp. people get murdered and raped. Wasn't worth the chance.

  12. Don't do it. Besides it being illegal...It is a fantasy. It is the last thing we need or want on Oahu or any of the Hawaiian islands.

  13. ~~Aloha~~

Boomer Gal and "f******n" (is it?)okay...well anyway...LOL...hit the nail RIGHT SQUARE ON THE HEAD and Cube-ism's reply is also TRUE and FUNNY! ( you should really take into account what they said) But if you decide to do it, you are young and it definitely WILL be an adventure, But please be Careful and Respect and OBEY ALL Laws and Peoples of Hawai'i~~Aloha~~Michelle~~

  14. ALWAYS.  HAVE.  A.  BACKUP PLAN.  Make d**n sure you have enough money and resources to get back to your normal lives if things dont work out.  You don't want to be stranded with no money or food.
