Me and my dad are going on vacation, but just now he got a letter to be on standby for jury duty...?

we have to leave in one week, and sometime soon, he could be called for jury duty, how can he decline this because he cant just forfeit the vacation tickets?

  1. If he hasn't already deferred jury duty recently, he can call the number on the summons and ask for an extension, expaining the vacation tickets that you've bought--the sooner the better. They're usually good about that. If, however, he's already done that once in this cycle, he just has to take his chances.


  2. Read the paperwork. Most of the time it says how to go about getting it delayed. I would not let it ruin my vacation.

  3. just tell the jury commissioner that you already had a vacation planned.  They should excuse you

There should be a number to call inlcuded in the letter.  Call them and explain your situation.  I don't know where you live, but I knew someone come up against this in Colorado.  They wrote a letter and got approved to do the jury duty on a subsequent round.  ...  You cannot decline jury duty.  It's a civic duty.  But you can ask for a forebearance (and in it's granted in some but not all cases.
