one thing you really need to do is bargain. when your buying stuff with vedors dont agree to their first price. I bought a right that original was said to cost 70 and i got it down to 30. Also know the exchange rate because not everyone knows it. Maybe even get your money in pasos.

Somethings to make sure you see their is Xcaret Ecologoical Park, and Tulum. The park is probably the most fun ive had in mexico. There is sooo much to do there including many beaches, swimming with dolphins, swimming in underground caves(a must do), going on a sea trek.

Avoid acting like a rich and powerful foreigner in in a third world country.

Avoid getting falling-down-drunk and wandering up a dark alley at night.

Other than that go everywhere and do everthing.  See the Maya ruins at Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum.  Swim with the dolphins and float the underground river at Xcaret.  Snuba at Xel-ha.  Take lots of pictures and video.

Use bug spray...I got a blood born tropical disease from a mosquito bite.  Also, there are a lot of Italians there.  They have awful attitudes.  As far as I no, there is no spray to repel Italians, so you're on your own for that one.
