Me and my friend are having a sweetsixteen party.... any ideas?

We want it to be semi-formal, and a very original theme (no luau's or pool partys) and we dont want it to look cheap (no pirates or 80's theme)... we also want to know a good way to decorate it.

Decorations try using balloons as centerpieces and do it yourself its cheaper and easy very elegant looking
