Me and my friend did a cruel prank on yahoo answers and now people are calling the police

Question

Me and my friend did a prank where my friend pretended that she as turning into a boy and she was being harrasses and now people are saying they are going to call the police! Can they really do that? I just talked to the people who said they are calling the police and one said that they already did. I AM NOW LITERALLY crying and very scared right now. My friend closed the account where the question was posted and now she cant get back in and delete the question. Whats going to happen???

You are going to learn a lesson.  Pranks can hurt people.  I don't think anyone is going to come after you for that, but be careful.  Right now there is a criminal case in the federal courts for a woman who pretended to be a young boy on the internet.  She befriended a young girl and then dumped on her.  The young girl comitted suicide and the woman is being charged with her death.

since you can still get into the question you need to send an apology to each and every person who answered. yahoo should also suspend any accounts you have and your parents should take away your computers.

haha you're fine.  People like to threaten online about all the bad things that will happen after they report you (because they're mad that they looked foolish), but with the amount of technology and time (Yahoo subpoenas, IP traces) required, nobody [law enforcement] will waste their time/resources on a topic like this.  Yes, it may be theoretically possible for them to find you personally, but...that's not gonna happen.

Things like this worst case generally end up with banned accounts because people complain to Yahoo, not to the police.  ..which that account is already closed anyway.
