Why would it be a bad idea? Ireland is the most beautiful, stunning country (apart from Scotland) in europe, with very friendly people from the North & South of the border.

Go for it someday you wont regret it!

Well, are you Irish? whats your Irish connection.

It shouldn't really be important, and in most places in Ireland it's not a problem. But I know people who have moved there, even though they have a fairly strong Irish connection, and have been made unwelcome. Due to things like moving to a village and taking jobs. It's usually ok, but when you're there you should consider respecting the people there because in Ireland there are small towns where everyone is familiar with eachother.

And if you're going building a house, you might want to consider it's affect on the landscape. Even though it's very common for an Irish person to build their own house. But it may be seen as rude for an outsider to just come along and build.

And in some places you may find the odd ignorant person that still hates the English, usually because they've had a fairly biased teaching of Irish history.

Although I am talking about a minority. You should be very welcome wherever you go. And i really do mean a minority.

No it's not if that's want you want and you think you'll be happy there. I like Ireland and the Irish.

It depends on what part. It is expensive, the weather is really bad and most people drink way too much. I'm from Donegal, its up North but not in Northern Ireland and i think it's quite lovely up there. The people are some of the nicest you'll ever meet and the accent is so lovely too. I would like to think Ireland would welcome ya with open arms anyways. Good luck whatever u decide. =D

If your not an European Union citizen, then the red tape can be a bit awkward as you'll need to organise work permits as well as residency permits, visas, etc.

If you're from a warm and sunny country, you'll mind Ireland cold, damp and miserable. It's a very mild climate generally, but it doesn't get very hot or cold, so we don't generally have warmer than 30 degrees celsius or colder than minus 8 or 9 celsius. So there's isn't the snow factor to make the winter entrancing.

You should definitely visit a place first before deciding on living there, just to see how you like it. You might not like it at all ... and as Ireland has become very expensive to live in in recent years, I am not surprised that many Irish who can now afford to are upping and moving to Spain and Portugal where life is cheap and sunny.
