Try doing a Home Management project .. right from Groceries to Assets to Finance. Everything that happens at home.

Maybe you could start a website that talks about the issues that your classmates are dealing with.  Something like a "Dear Abby" type website where people could ask you questions and you could post the answers on the website.  It would be relevant to your school and your friends and your teachers would be impressed.  Bonus points if you have other people answer the questions (like teachers, parents, friends, etc.).

I know that sounds a bit like Yahoo Answers, but it would be more localized, dealing with your school, your town, your classmates and friends.
