  1. Good luck with the process.

I want to adopt one day, but waiting until my own are older and left home.

  2. are you in the uk? if so your best bet is to try social services. theyll give you all the info you need. there are also some private fostering and adoption societies out there. type adoption into google search im sure something will come up on there. my  brother and sister in law were adopted, they were fostered from birth then adopted by their foster parents (my in laws) aged 5 but they had always let them know where they were from. they told them their real family loved them so much that they let them adopt them. it was true as the family had a few other children and couldnt cope with any more.

  3. Canada: if you're going the usual government clsoed adoption route, you are too old for an infant as they generally do not place babies to women over 40 and the wait list is now around 4 years. If you are willing to take an older child, especially a child with special needs or of biracial ethnicity, this is relaxed to about 45 years if you're healthy and financially stable. Private adoptions are sometimes less stringent but they base the decision on your finances, health and integrity. Overseas adoptions usually have the same guidelines as the main purpose is to find a child a home where there is health, stability and love. Look in your yellow pages for local adoptive family associations. they often have information evenings. We adopted our daughter when I was 39. She's 25 now and we are almost retired and able to support her education as well as wedding plans so, for us, being a bit older and more established was a good thing. We were also still young enough to be able to relate to her, to remember our own teen angst, and to participate in physical recreation. I personally wouldn't be in favor of people over 40 to adopt a baby.

  4. No you are not 'too old' at all. A lot of people decide to adopt around your age. Also you probably have more stability, a house, better jobs... etc. My mom's best friend adopted their first at the age of 34. The process took them nearly 2 years with the 1st one, and about 8 months for their second. Good luck! It's a long process, but worth every minute.

  5. I think your first step should be to get the book Adoption for Dummies. It explains everything. You also need to decide whether you want to adopt a child from the United States, or from another country. Different countries have different criteria for age, income, length of marriage, etc.

  6. No U can never be too old to take care of a child who has not had a good life. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

  7. You are not too old at all! Plenty of people adopt around your age, some even older. It depends on the adoption. If you are doing it in the way that the birthmom is pregnat and can't care for the baby, the process will take about 9 months and you can take the baby home once he/she is ready to leave the hospital.

BUT if you adopt an older child and from another country or even in the USA the process could take about 1.5-2 years. Good luck!

  8. i my self am adopted and have been since i was 6 weeks old. you will find it a roller coaster of emotions but if the child you adopt is told at the right age and is never shuned off the subject when he or she asks a question about it, I'm sure it will be rewarding for you. age has no boundary's. i still have made no attempt to find my natural parents because mine now have never hidden anything form me. i am very happy as i am.
