Me and my husband both like the names McKenna and Kennedie (or Kennedi) for a girl. Any thoughts?

I like Makenna over Kennedy/Kennedie/Kennedi. Kennedy sounds very masculine to me, so I wouldn't use it on a girl. Misspelling it doesn't make it girlier. McKenna is a difficult name. It means 'son of Kenneth', which I dont' care for a on a girl. Makenna is actually an unrelated African name that means 'joy'. It's a much nicer meaning, and it sounds exactly the same!

Ewwww, they are both awful.  Please go with something that isn't trendy and overused.

It's tacky for three reasons.

1) The most obvious way of spelling Makenna is Makenna. McKenna is confusing and misspelled.

2) Kennedy is always spelled Kennedy. Any other form is ridiculous.

3) The repeat sound - KENNA then KENNEDY - is really unnecessary. I recommend using a family middle name.

But I do like the first name Makenna. It's been in the top 1000 girls' names since about 1993.

McKenna sounds too much like a last name

and if you go for Kennedy, spell it with a y like it normally is. People who try to change the spellings of the names think they are being different, but it just causes head aces... she will be correcting people on the spelling of her name her whole life. It is already a different name.

Trust me I know, I have  odd spelling to my name  and hate it.. I am constantly correcting people and going thre head aces over paper work :(

I actually love both names. I know others will say they're too trendy, but I like them anyway. I think I like McKenna the best, it has such a pretty sound and I think it would age better. I like the spelling Makenna best, but this is fine. I actually like the Kennedi spelling or even Kennadi. I normally like the traditional spelling of a name, but I think these look nice. They're both too trendy for my taste.  If you must go with Kennedy, at least spell it the right way.  Ending it in an "i" or an "ie" looks way too little-girly and cutesy.

I like Kennedy best, spelled the correct and the original way. Other spellings look silly and like you do not know how to spell. If you do not like the name spelled the correct way maybe you should name her something else-  Kendall, Kendra.

I don't like Mckenna, and I think Kennedie is cute, but unlike some people, I think spelling it with a "Y" is more masculine. I like that you've made it look more feminine. I prefer to spell it Kenadee though.

Kennedy is really cute. I also like Kendall for a girl. McKenna sounds too much like a last name to me. Or at least a middle name. I like Elise for a middle- Kennedy Elise or Kendall Elise. =]
