Me and my wife of 22 years want a divorce. We have lived apart most of the marriage. my question is in Illinois do i need a lawyer to divorce her. can i get a paralegal or someone to just prepare the paper for us to sign .? And then take them to the court house and file. We have already worked out all the detail. Include child support. Went to see a lawyer and was told it will be betwen $1500 and $2000. This is not being contested at all. Is there a way to do this easier and cheaper?

  1. See what I mean about marriage?  You go and throw away 22 years for what?

  2. You are on very dangerous ground rolling your own when there are kids. A paralegal can't do it for you, unless you happen to have one in the family who will do it free. That's practicing law. Try some other lawyers. If it's really all agreed, it might well be much cheaper.

  3. Yes there should be a program in you state called legal aid and they would do in for a min of $250
