  1. I spent my honeymoon in that same hotel. It is nice, smaller than the large resorts but very elegant, clean and cozy.

plaza caracol has a big selection of silver jewerly, however, if you want better prices go to the mercado (market) in downtown. you can take a bus right in front of your hotel. The staff at your hotel will be glad to assist you on which route to take. Once there you can bargain some prices.

As for the water, my husband always get sick from drinking tap water over there, but i don't.

If you get any sunburn, there's drugstores where they sell over the counter remedies for it, unless it's a more serious thing, you can finds night clinics too for small emergencies in the hotel area.

I will be going to Cancun next may, so i can't wait. Best wishes ;-)

  2. this is an absolutely beautiful hotel...we stayed there a couple of times when it was called the Melia Turquesta...really nicelly located too.the water is safe to drink in the hotel zone...but do not drink anything downtown except bottled water...there really is only one good mall anymore..sadly the hurricane helped dwendle that..buy your silver at the farmers market...that is the cheapest...make sure you barter with them..go to a bank in the mall to exchange money that is the best rate...also there is usually a little truck in the plaza where the hard rock cafe is that is reasonable...do not exchange at airport...you will get taken...you can tip with american dollars also till you get pasoes....they can not exchange change so don't give american change as tips.the mall is Kukulan Plaza...there is a bank in there on second floor...left side...have a wonderful time...we have been there many times...just last jan.

  3. The upscale mall is La Isla Shopping mall. Here is a link to some photos. It's an awesome mall. Very entertaining besides just stores.

As far as food and water goes, I only drink bottled water when I travel and even at home. The water there will not make you sick, it just tastes different. The water has been purified in Cancun. The food is prepared with different seasonings in Cancun so I always pack my Imodium when I travel. If my stomach starts to feel a little funny I take one Imodium. I do have a sensitive stomach but I eat everything.

The best craft market is Mercado 28, located downtown. Take the R2 bus from hotel zone to downtown and exit bus right before Walmart, make a right at corner follow signs to market. About a 3 block walk from bus stop.

Another one is Plaza Caracol in the hotel zone.

I always use dollars when I shop in Mexico. Dollars are excepted every where. You get about 11 pesos to 1 dollar. Easy way to figure is every peso is worth a little more than a dime. Bring small bills with you, it's hard to find small bills in Cancun. Even the ATM's disperse bigger bills (always in pesos)

    Have a great trip)
