  1. Take her out of his tank for a day and put her back in tomorrow. It takes a few tries before they mate. Don't keep her in with him too long or they'll kill eachother.

  2. he needs to tire her so the can spawn, once he tires her,he will wrap himself around her and then spawn.

  3. Heres what you should do.

-Go out and buy one of those breeders kits. The one with a plastic area that she will live in for the next few days.

-Put her in, watch her for an hour make sure she's not stressed then put the plastic thing in the tank.

-When he starts taking interest in her by, cocking his back up, flaring his gills, and making a bubble nest, put her into the tank.

-He may nip her fins, but once she lays her eggs, get her out! Put her in a glass bowl or another tank all her own.

-Meanwhile, set up another tank/bowl for him so when the eggs hatch take immediately take him out and put him in the other tank/bowl.

If you're really worried about her fins, go out and buy some BettaFix Remedy, it'll help heal her fins. Also, be ready to feed and take care of 100-200 fry.

    Good luck!

  4. It's not easy to breed Betta's.  Sometimes it's just not a good match.  If you take her out for a day and put her back in a few times and he still bullies her to the point her fins are very torn up and she's hiding alot, you might just have a pair that won't fit.  Breeding is nature, but it's not nature to pick the pair, put them into an artificial environment and expect it to go smoothly.

Many factors can also cause stress or an undesirable breeding environment, such as temperature (ideal is 80 - 82 degrees), where the bubble nest is set up, how long you keep her in the tank in the chimney, too many bubbles vs no air.

  5. If you got them from a petstore instead of a breeder, then most likely they're too old to actually breed.

Bettas go through a very traumatic fish spawn which includes a lot of fighting, a lot of tearing of fins. Then one day the female gets in a phased out drugged mood and hypnotically goes to the male where he courts her and they spawn. So don't fear the fighting. "There's a lot more detail to this but I'll spare you the reading."

To treat the wounds, add a bit of salt and Betta Fix, it'll def. help.

If you did get the betta's from a breeder, then try adding an Almond Leaf to their breeding tank. It's like Viagra for Bettas.

Also use like a 5 or 10 gallon tank with plenty of plants for the female to hide in.

Be really Prepaired though, Betta's can spawn up to 400 fry! And not all of them can be kept together!

  6. The female should be kept in a divided tank (a glass plate cut to size works well) so the male can see her. He will become agitated and then build the bubble nest. When the nest is complete, you can remove the divider and let them together. He will nip her a number of times before mating by wrapping his body around hers, squeezing the eggs out and fertilizing them. He will awake before her and collect the eggs putting them into the bubble nest. When he is finished with her, he will chase her and if she is not removed, will kill her since she will attempt to eat the eggs. Keep her alone in a clean tank with a bit of sea salt to disinfect any wounds she may have and she should recover nicely.
