Meagan Nay nabs Women’s 200m back-stroke crown - Santa Clara International Invitational 2011
Day three of the 2011 Santa Clara International Invitational 2011, began with the stunning performance of Australian swimmer, Meagan Nay in the Women’s 200m back-stroke event at Santa Clara, California, on June 18.
She notched the golden crown in the corresponding race with a winning time of 2 minutes and 07.16 seconds. Despite her impressive performance in the Women’s 200m back-stroke, Nay has now moved to the second spot in the world rankings. Meanwhile, her team-mate,
Belinda Hocking retained the number one spot in the international rankings with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 06.88 seconds.
Earlier, Nay won two gold medals in the Women’s 200m back-stroke and 4x200m freestyle finals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Currently, she is dedicatedly training hard in her aquatic swimming styles in Australia along with her mentors, in an attempt
to prepare herself for the upcoming FINA 2011 World Championships in Shanghai and the London 2012 Olympic Games.
While speaking on her current form in competitive swimming, Nay commented that she is very confident about securing good results at the Shanghai World Championships in July.
On the other hand, Elizabeth Pelton of NBAC took home the silver crown in the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet with a scintillating time of 2 minutes and 09.07 seconds. The win also moved her into the eleventh place in the international rankings.
Placed third in the corresponding event was Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars with a time of 2 minutes and 09.88 seconds. Earlier, she set the record time of 2 minutes and 07.96 seconds in the 200m back-stroke in March, 2011. She retained her number six spot
in the world rankings with her performance.
In another event, Jessica Hardy of Trojan snagged the Women’s 50m breast-stroke crown after she touched the finishing wall in a winning time of 30.43 seconds and moved to the top spot in the world rankings. Brendan Hansen of Longhorn nabbed the Men’s 50m
breast-stroke title after he completed his swim in a winning time of 28.65 seconds.
