Meagan Romano wins Women’s 100m freestyle meet: Day four – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Meagan R Romano of ABSC won the gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle category on the fourth day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, being held in Athens, Georgia, USA.
The 20-year-old Romano, who entered the finals as the top fastest swimmer, displayed her breath-taking performance in the final round, where she clocked a time of 55.09 seconds to pocket the gold medal. Her timing in the final round was 0.18 seconds faster
than her effort in the qualifying rounds, where she posted 55.27 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by the second fastest qualifying swimmer and her team-member, Shannon N Vreeland, who followed her on the podium for the silver medal, by producing a time of 55.60 seconds. Vreeland was 1.19 seconds faster than her closest
competitor, Faith Johnson of STAR, who proved her eligibility for the bronze medal, with a timing of 56.79 seconds.
The podium finishers were followed by Becca L Jones of AUB, who stayed only 0.06 seconds away from Johnson and appeared as the fourth fastest finisher on the concluding wall, by finishing her swim in a time of 56.85 seconds. Katherine Huff of ASL was the
fifth fastest swimmer of the two-lap swim, as she was only 0.07 seconds behind Jones and completed her sprint in an admiring time of 56.92 seconds.
Moments later, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Kristen Wilson of WA and Kelsey Winters of AUB, who touched the finishing wall in an identical time of 57.02 seconds for the sixth position. They were followed by Melanie Margalis of Saint Petersburg,
who stayed only 0.16 seconds behind the duo of sixth position holders and posted a time of 57.18 seconds for the eighth spot.
Romano was extremely happy with her title winning effort and expressed her desire of continuing the same performance in future events. Furthermore, the arena appreciated the remarkable efforts of all swimmers, while the winners received medals for their
perfect swims in the 100m freestyle after the completion of the session.
