Meaghan Raab dominates Women’s 200 yard freestyle prelims – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Meaghan Raab of Hershey Aquatic won the qualification rounds of Women’s 200 yard freestyle on day two of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Friday, December 7.
Raab showed no mercy to her challengers in the eight-lap discipline as she continued her supremacy throughout the race to occupy the fastest qualification spot.
With her impeccable pace, Raab remained more than half a body length ahead of her closest swimmer and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 46.93 seconds.
Her top notch effort remained 0.63 seconds ahead of Alexandera Malazdrewicz of Jeffco Hurricane, who proved her eligibility for second fastest spot of the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 47.56 seconds.
Malazdrewicz was chased by Catherine Ladd of Santa Clara Swim, who was 0.32 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 47.88 seconds for third position.
Ladd was traced by Cecilia Williams of Area Tallahassee, who was 0.21 seconds slower from her former finisher and entered the playoff as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 48.09 seconds.
Williams was followed by Emily Allen of North Mecklenburg, who stayed 0.25 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 48.34 seconds for fifth place.
Subsequently, the arena witnessed a draw between Lauren Rhodes of SwimMAC Carolina and Paige Madden of City of Mobile for sixth position. Both swimmers remained engaged in a neck-to-neck race throughout the swim and completed their swims with identical timings of 1 minute and 48.92 seconds.
Afterwards, Sammie Hashbarger of Metroplex Aquatics and Rebecca Postoll of Stingrays-GA also ended in a tie for eighth position. The duo remained 0.10 seconds slower from their preceding finishers and reached the finishing end for eighth best position with the same timing of 1 minute and 49.02 seconds.
Furthermore, Raab expressed contentment over her fastest qualification effort and said that she would try hard to secure the title by repeating the same in the final round.
