Meal Ideas for baby?

Hi, my 10 month old is losing interest in baby food. I need some meal ideas. I've been giving her small pieces of fruit, cherrios, veggies at meal times to help her learn to self feed.

My biggest dilema is what to give her for breakfast. Shes had pancakes, waffles, cherrios, and fruit.. and I alternate so that she won't get tired of the same old thing. are there any other meal ideas that I can do for breakfast? I will take suggestions for an easy lunch and dinner as well.... oh and by the way, i want to give her chicken for dinner. she seems to be chewing well, she only has her 6 front teeth but do i just dice it or should I run it through the food processor? Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!

  1. my 10 and half month old loves toast with cream cheese, scrambled eggs, pancakes, she loves fruit , grapes with skin off and cut in half, she loves kraft dinner, sheppards pie, chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots..make sure they are cooked well and small pieces, pastas, cheese, pretty much anything we eat as long as it is soft enough and in small pieces, No, I do not put it through the blender because she is doing good this way.

Snack, yogourt, graham cookies, arrowroot cookies, goldfish crackers , gerber makes some good snacks and meals(stage 3)

    good luck!!!

  2. The same thing happened to my daughter, at 10 months she rejected baby food sooner than I expected so I had to move fast to find a new way to feed her. These days we steam almost everything. We steam veggies until they are soft. We use brocolli, cauliflower, grean beans, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots. We also steam fish - flounder, tilapia and salmon. She loves pasta, we buy the ditalini and she likes to poke her finger through the hole and pick it up and play with it and then put it in her mouth. We also give her firm tofu (you can feed straight from container) cubed. All these items allow her to self feed since we can cut everything up, except the pasta, which doesnt require cubing since its the perfect size. We also have given her ground pork and beef, when we make other foods, but serve her more fish than anything other type of protein source.

Fruits we give her are bananas, grapes (cut up), blueberries (cut in half), watermelon and mango. We also give her cheese cut up as a snack. Lately its mostly string cheese thats easy to cut and prepare.

In terms of how big to cut everything, I figure anything thats as big as a cheerios is ok. My daughter also eats cheerios, gerber puffs and kix too. We've also given her a whole arrowroot cookie and she plays with it while eating it.

For breakfast, we giver her fruit, the singel grain oatmeal and yo baby yogurt. Eventually I plan to move her to eating regular oatmeal each day.

They dont use their front teeth to break down the food. They only use their gums in the back. My pediatrician says they break down most of it and whatever they don't, they'll just swallow. It's no big deal since we cut everything down well enough and she chews quite well and everything is soft enough too.

I wouldnt puree anything anymore since they need to get used to more textures.  I thought broccoli would be the most challenging for my daughter to eat, but she willingly picks it up herself. She eats her vegetables really well so I'm content  for now. Cubing is totally the way to go. You want to  move away from that baby food type of consistency, otherwise they will get lazy and won't want to chew so much. The whole point is to get them chewing to prepare them for regular food so you don't have to prepare seperate meals for them anymore!

  3. She can have egg yolks. Try scrambled eggs or mac and cheese.

  4. Regarding V's answer... Do not feed your 10 month old peanut butter... should wait until they are 2 for that.

Toast with butter or jam is good. My son is 15 months old with only two bottom teeth.  I do give him tiny pieces of chicken or steak and watch him very carefully.  He usualy ends up chewing or "gumming" for a while and spitting it out but, at least he is getting used to the textures.

Pretty much whatever you eat that is soft and small is good to introduce to your baby.

Don't give up after one time either... keep trying another day even if they don't like it the first time.

    All the best

  5. Try scrambled eggs with cheese, and if chewing good try sausage or bacon, different types of cereal. First time with meat I would make sure to process or very small dices.

  6. Check out this site:

It has tons of amazing ideas for what to feed your baby.

    Good luck

  7. my baby brother always loved applesauce. even tho its kinda like baby food, my mom said he loved the sweetness of it and it was the only baby food type thing he would eat (because of the texture of it i guess)

  8. mashed potato,

    they love it!

  9. Scrambled eggs always went over well. You can take toast and cut it into really small pieces. Oatmeal is always a good option too. For lunch, you can make an acctual sandwich and then just cut it up into really small pieces. You can try cut up chicken nuggets. You can give her hot dogs too as long as their cut up really well. When I watched my cousin, he loved to eat the whole thing whole because it was easy for him to hold on to and feed himself. Cut up pieces of cheese are good too. Or if you want, go down the baby food isle and try Gerber 3rd foods and Lil' Entre's.

  10. make her whatever u eat, but ALWAYS put it thru the food pro.

  11. My son has weet-bix (i'm obviously australian) with hot water and apple, and a little formula, or oats with apple or banana for breakfast. These don't have to go through the food processor as it's quite squishy. You could also try yoghurt with fruit for breakfast.

  12. breakfast..little french toast minis, or peanut butter & jelly pockets (they sell them by the box(frozen) in grocery stores), cereal,

dinner.. how about chopped up chicken strips, ravioli, rice, beefaroni or what about little macaronis.. they sell them in the baby section. they usually like them plain. you can add a tad bit of salt for flavor.

snacks.. baby pretzels, applesauce, animal crackers
