I am needing to budget for a school trip and wondering the rough price of meals in italy (those already answered are not really relevant and all seem to be answered with...it depends- not what i want!)

we will be sticking to tourist-y areas which i am aware will be more expensive. a meal may consist of

eg. breakfast - cereal, toast or pastry with coffee

lunch - sandwich, roll, pizza etc

dinner - pizza, pasta, fish, chicken

etcetc

we will be in milan, venice, florence, rome during january

thanks

  2. If you are sticking to tourist areas then you'll need the following to be on the safe side:

    Breakfast = €10.00

    Lunch = €20.00

    Dinner = €30.00

    This will get you by with a few euro to spare.

  3. breakfast If you take cappuccino and cornetto Something like pastry) you spend 1,50 €uro.

    lunch take pizza in a restaurant not more than 10 €uro (included coffe and water or bier), in a  pizza shop €uro2,50 are enough.

    If you go in restaurant where they accept ticket restaurant generally you can have a fixed price menu for 8.00/10,00 €uro (for instance near Via Cipro - Musei Vaticani)

  4. maria luisa is right...

    breakfast at bar(not sitting, you must ask if you sit dow of much you pay..prices can be different or not depending to bar):

    -espresso coffee 0.80-0.90 €

    -pastry 0.8-1€

    -cappuccino 1.20€

    -american coffee around 1.5€ (i think, noone get it here..when you ask for a coffee they'll give you an espresso)

    lunch at :

    - bar: sandwich 1.50-3€   and   1/2 liter water 1€

    - pizza shop: 2.5€ per slice  1.5€ coke

    - kebab shop : sandwich kebab 3.5€ (i think is the place you eat more at this price..)

    dinner at :

    -pizzeria: pizzas from 5 to 10€( 10 € is very particular), beer 3-4€  coperto(sort of a tax) 1.5€ (average is 10€ per dinner)

    - restaurant: pasta is around 8€ , fish from 10€, meat from 10€ to ...you'll going to spend around 15 to 20€ ..

    -chinese restaurants: are generally less expensives restaurants in italy, full meals from 10-15€ (and eat a lot...)

    gelato and granita from 1.5€

    suggestions:buy water at markets of, if find some fountain arounf get water from it because in bar is expensive(and it's less expensive thing to drink)

  5. I spent a semester traveling around Italy and Europe.  You can generally find food pretty cheaply on the street.  In Italy, there are pizza shops that sell by the "slice" that are very affordable (probably about 5 euros for a decent amount).  I rarely ate at a sit-down place.  There are also grocery-type shops and markets where you can find cheap food.  If you don't plan to eat in sit-down restaurants all the time, I would budget about 30-40 euros a day for food.
