How would you measure the mean square voltage of some random noise with:

digital means and analogue means

  1. Look into Gaussian white noise. You have to measure noise over a specific bandwidth...but to much to explain on yahoo answers.


  2. do you really mean "mean square" or do you mean "RMS", root mean square.

    Big difference.

    A true RMS reading voltmeter will read noise accurately.

    Digitally, sample the noise with a SH (sample and hole) AD periodically for a few thousand samples, then calculate the RMS in the processor.
