Even in invoking the anniversary of the King speech, Mr. Obama only alluded to race. But he quoted a famous phrase from Dr. King’s address to reinforce a central theme of his own speech. “America, we cannot turn back,” Mr. Obama said. “Not with so much work to be done.”

  1. Did you listen to the entire speech? He's talking about what we need to do get the country back on track, i.e., universal health care, education for all kids, keeping jobs in the US, getting out of Iraq, etc. That is a lot of work and we, as a country, can't go on with what is currently in place. That is what I think he meant.
