My doctor ordered a cardiac marker panel done. My CK was 241 (normal value 21-215). My CPK-MB was 4.1 (normal value 0.5-3.6). My CPK-MB was within normal values at 1.7.

My Troponin-I,Quant was <0.04. Will you please tell me what this means? By the way, I had an abnormal EKG test and some right leg swelling which was why the doctor ordered it. However, when he gave me the results of these blood tests he said they were OK. Why did he say that?

Thanks.

  1. Creatinine phospho-Kinase (CK or CPK) is a muscle enzyme.

    There are 3 types-

    1. CPK-MM found in skeletal muscle

    2. CPK-MB found in heart

    3. CPK- MM is found in brain.

Slightly elevated levels (CK= 241) are normal and are seen in some healthy individuals.

Your doctor ordered CPK-MB and Troponin levels on the basis of your abnormal EKG because both these enzymes are elevated in acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). But when they came out to be within normal limits or slightly elevated; he ruled out the diagnosis of MI.

You can consult a cardiologist for an opinion on abnormal EKG especially if you have past and/ or family history of any heart disease.

    wishing you a good health,
