question: hike and excursion have a same meaning.why does people like using 'hiking excursion' to describe the meaning of 'go on an extended walk for pleasure'

  1. I think when the subject is vacationing, people substitute the word excursion for 'day trip.' So people really mean 'hiking day trip." I went on a boating excursion while I was in Montego Bay. The travel agents use this jargon. When vacationing, excursion does not mean 'go on an extended walk for pleasure,' it means to leave your resort to go on a specialized day trip (hiking, atv, zip-line, boat, etc.)

      


  2. It is like someone saying banca boat in the Philippines. That is basically saying boat boat.

    Or hot water heater. If the water was already hot, why would it need to be heated? It is a water heater.

    So....I guess they will be going on a hike hike.
