Meaning of the name "Chakotay"?

A while ago there was a Star Trek series on TV called Voyager. The first officer was a Native American man named "Chakotay". Does anyone know if this is a real Native American name and whether or not it has a meaning?

  1. I do not know about what they said it meant on the show. I looked it up and it says it is a made up name and it has no meaning


  2. I love Voyager too!

    As I understand Chakotay means "Peace in the Valley"
