  1. Check www.tafsir.com for Ibn Katheer's tafseer of this Ayah

  2. Despite being drowned in the middle of the sea, Allah preserved the body of the Pharoah who gave pursuit to Musa (a.s.) and its mummified remains still exist today.

  3. Is that very speaking about mankind as a whole? Or someone specifically?

Abul Haarith- Thank you for this site. It will help a lot. Once again thank you.

Here is a good Tafsir about that specific verse:

(So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you!) Ibn `Abbas and others from among the Salaf have said: "Some of the Children of Israel doubted the death of Fir`awn so Allah commanded the sea to throw his body -- whole, without a soul -- with his known armor plate. The body was thrown to a high place on the land so that the Children of Israel could confirm his death and destruction.'' That is why Allah said,

    [فَالْيَوْمَ نُنَجِّيكَ]

("So this day We shall deliver your..'') meaning that We will put your body on a high place on the earth.

  4. Actually this indicates that the body of phraoh was still preserved even after he and his empire were destroyed for disobeying Allah.  It also doesn't specifically say that he died.  This is an implied understanding.  However there are other verses that indicate that he (pharoah) had received severe brain damage due to lack of Oxygen and hence remained mentally incapacitated for the rest of his days.

The Qur'an mentions this historical fact (of preservation). It is the only book to do so.

More importantly however, the Qur'ans prophecy has been fulfilled as after more than 3000 the body of pharoah has been discovered, preserved, just as the Qur'an says, and is in a Muesum in Cairo.  Moses was born during Ramses !! and became a Prophet during the reign of Merneptah (son of Ramses II).

Hence, this is indeed a sign for all people of all time of the fate of one who rejects a true Prophet of God, just as Allah promises in the Qur'an.
