  1. There are 8 tablespoons in a stick.  But I'm NOT sure you can use the whipped kind in the tub as a substitute!

  2. Don't most recipes call for butter or margarine?  If there's a major difference they should tell you.  You can check on line for baking tips/emergencies.

  3. 1 sick is a 1/2 cup of butter is I do not know your what your fraction is I/1?

  4. Jen's answer above is correct.  When you use a butter substitute like Smart Balance, however, you need to keep in mind that the product has a higher water content than regular margarine or butter. I've found that my muffins or cookies tend to be dry if I depend solely on the Smart Balance for moisture and taste.  Adding a tablespoon of a neutral oil, such as canola or almond, will help make your muffins or cookies moister.

  5. Do you mean 1 1/2 sticks?

1 and 1/2 sticks is 12 ounces of butter or margarine which is equal to 12 tablespoons.

The container holds 32 tablespoons so you need a little less than half of the container.  I would measure it out in tablespoons IF you don't have a kitchen scale.
