Question:

Meat Free Longevity Question?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I've been meat free for 11 years, but my question is, how much longer can I expect to live?

Can I go another year, another month, another week (?) without meat, or will severe protein deficiency take hold soon?

Also, I would take an iron tablet, but my arms are too frail to open the bottle up.

Thanks.

  1. Got sort of lost with your question (are you being funny?). But I don't think we need meat to be healthy as there are so many other good foods out there that contain some protein and then there is always the tablet option - I take loads of these and also eat meat (as I like it) - I don't abuse people that don't eat meat though - each to their own I say. Have a great day.

My gosh, it's like 'chip on the shoulder' questions and answers on here. Yanda is right - sarcasm is a low sign of wit.

Sorry - I take back what I said - I see what you mean - it must be a PAIN IN THE BUTT for meat eaters to constantly think they know better - i.e. about what is good about food etc. I think vegetarians must be mega healthy as you eat all the good stuff! Good for you I say! And I find the responses funny now I have read them tee hee.

Sorry again - I meant a pain in the butt for Vegetarians that meat eaters think they know better - I hope you all got what I meant eek!

  2. I myself would rather live to 88 eating meat once or twice a week than to 89 without bacon.  But it's your choice.  Argentinians have some of the longest life spans in the world and also the highest consumtion of beef.

I did the veggie thing for about a year and of all of the deficiencies I could of gotten, I had lack of oil in my diet. No oil causes problems with the nervous system. I now eat about 5oz of meat a week which is sustainable on a world basis. People who eat a pound a meat a day are as nutso as the Hamas vegans.

The way to avoid anemia is to cook tomato based foods in cast iron pans.  There was no diet related anemia until we stopped using cast iron pans.

The health issues with meat in the US seem to come from the feed used.  Corn fed animals are somehow less healthy to eat than range fed animals.

  3. I think you should be taken out and shot as soon as possible if only to stop the massacre of all the innocent plants you consume daily. ;)

  4. Oh honey, you probably only have a few days.  You better live it up ;)

  5. Oh no 11 years you say. mmm well I don't think you have much longer to live. I'm surprised you and Micheal even have the energy to type these messages. I've been veg for 2 years and vegan for a few months but the protein deficiency is already taking it's toll..... Feeling so... tired need...protein....gett--ing... difficult to...type... =P LOL

  6. Wow,great question .

Actually you can expect to live as long as you live, but probably longer than meat munchers,as you wont have furred up arteries, etc, and ya wont die from vCJD.

Ive been vegetarian over 40 years, and I'm gonna live till at least 100,as i got a lot of people to bug yet.lolol

lol you must get the shop to put ya iron tabs in a paper bag,it works for me.lolol

I would be able to answer the question properly, but my brains been deprived as I'm a lentil sucking, sandal wearing tree hugger, and i can only get outta bed for special occasions these days, like doing the washing ha ha.

I'm loving the answers of many here, but we still getting the anally retentive ones too.

Bless, where would we be without them.lol....

Actually i married a meat eater to carry me round the shops and to holland and barrets bless him .lol

  7. U tink dats bad - thunk wot it must b like 4 us vegans! I be bed ridden, can only find the strength 2 lift one finga 2 typ and my brain is eatin itself 4 da protein!

The hardest thing of all is I now can't eat animal crackers... I miss dem :o(

  8. I knew you were vegan Hollywood as soon as I saw you, with your manky stringy hair, and your pasty complexion, the big black shadows under your sunken eyes, with your bones protruding through your skin, its because you malnourished.

Why didn't you listen to the trolls?????????? They told you you couldn't survive without meat!!!!!!

I honestly don't think you have got long, you've deteriorated too much, I dont even think meat can help you now :((

You must rest now Hollywood, there's nothing else you can do.

  9. Hi,

You are probably in a very serious mental and physical decline.

I've been veggie for 28 years and I barely get out of bed in the morning.

If i wasn't veggie, i could probably get up at 6 every morning, never be ill, work all day with my finger in 4 companies and various charity work, I'd be able to lead a full and active life. such a shame i miss out on all that

I blame the cows for having such cute big brown eyes.

sorry, cannot continue with this answer, i need to lie down and rest

  10. good question..i wonder where the carnivores are hiding? The trolls skipped this one! wowzerr

  11. oh you poor soul!!

i feel your pain.....i have had to train my dog to open bottles and jars for lack of energy in my muscles. i haven't yet found a way to train him to mow the lawn, so here i sit, pale and defeated, inside my dark home surrounded by overgrown grass and shrubbery.  i can feel the last remnants of protein seeping out of my body even as i type this answer....

sometimes, as i sit here almost motionless i think, "oh, what just one bite of fish would do for me! why!? why was i not a pescetarian!?" and then i realize that i would not have the energy to cook fish, anyway.

so i await death, eating only salads and carrots and waiting for protein and iron definiency to rob my body of the last of my energy.  my skin is growing paler daily and is now see through, and the doctor can see my withering organs without even needing an x-ray.  the doctor (aka my husband) says i have only hours and so i must rest now, but in case i don't make it back.........you have all been great friends.....and i will leave you my jar-opening dog for assistance.

  12. I'm so sorry to learn of your condition!  (Would you prefer a charitable donation in lieu of flowers?)

Sadly, protein deficiency has likely set in already.  People would probably be staring in horror at your revolting physical condition, but vegans reach a point where you're so frail and pale, people can't really see you anymore.

I've been veg for 20+ years, and I don't know how I manage to go on.....

    *sigh*

  13. Gee...you're estimating another week?

I give you HOURS to live.

Meat free for 11 years? You must be some kind of freak of nature as NO ONE can live without meat and it's wonderful amounts of fat, cholesterol and protein. Our bodies are designed for that you know.

Hey! I know this guy at the university who is studying nutrition. Would you donate your body to him so he can run experiments on you? I know you're still alive, but that's even better. He can inject you with beef hormones and write a paper about you- helping a meat-eater achieve his PhD is the least you can do for not doing your part. As a non-meat eater, YOU are causing more animals to suffer by not eating them.

  14. Well, you could live to be 90 or you could get hit by a bus tomorrow.

  15. I can just barely make it out of bed these days because of my arthritis, rheumatitis, and veggie-itis that's come from calcium and iron deficiency.  I've only been vegan 4 years and veggie for 5.  Stop now before you become decrepit like me.  Oh and look at how pale I am to be a black guy.  For shame, For shame.  Shame on those veggies for doing to this to me.

I would ROFTL if I could just find the energy.

  16. Hello,

(ANS) I have been meat free since I left home when I was about 20 years old and I have had good health ever since, that was 19years ago!. Its a 100% total myth that NOT eating meat is bad for you. I have been Vegan for about 12mths following this I have been a normal vegetarian for many years until 2000 when I became gluten free (wheat free). Now I am a vegetarian on a wheat free diet but its fine.

**There is no difference in terms of longevity if you eat meat or don't eat meat. Your life span is NOT largely determined by diet alone, our mortality is far more affected by a) the genetics from our parents i.e. heredity b) life style & life events c) class & background i.e. wealth etc.

**No! if you DON'T eat meat there is no need to buy or take vitamins or Iron supplements.  You just need to eat a normal vegetarian diet, meaning eating enough food per meal and enough carbohydrates, proteins & fats. If you eat a  normal vegetarian diet this will provide enough of the vitamins that the body requires.

    Ivan

  17. You mean you're not dead already?

EDIT: lol@ the thumbs down. I was being sarcastic people. I've not eaten meat for ten years. I was going to make another joke but it would probably be wasted and fall out of your radar!
