Hello all!

I'm a vegetarian, not a vegan, first off. I'm wondering what types of products that you are fond of that are meat substitutes (ex. Boca Burgers).

Thanks!

Caroline :)

  1. My favorite fake meats are:

Tofurkey Deli Slices ("original" and "peppered" flavors)

    Nate's Meatless Meatballs

    Gardenburger Meatless Riblets

    Lightlife -- Smart Bacon

    Gardenburger Flame Grilled Chik’n

Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Chik’n Strips

More popular ones are listed here:

  2. i suggest products made from quorn (a fungus, similar to mushrooms).  they're a lot more natural than the others.  i used to love morning star farms products - but have you read the ingredients??  so many chemicals.

here are the ingredients from their sausage patties:

TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (WHEAT GLUTEN, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, WATER FOR HYDRATION), EGG WHITES, CORN OIL, SODIUM CASEINATE, MODIFIED TAPIOCA STARCH, CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF LACTOSE, SOYBEAN OIL, HYDROLYZED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (WHEAT GLUTEN, CORN GLUTEN, SOY PROTEIN), AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, SPICES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SODIUM PHOSPHATES (TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE, TETRAPYROPHOSPHATE, HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, MONOPHOSPHATE), SALT, DISODIUM INOSINATE, CARAMEL COLOR, CELLULOSE GUM, WHEY POWDER, MODIFIED CORN STARCH, MALTODEXTRIN, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, DEXTROSE, ONION POWDER, DISODIUM GUANYLATE, VITAMINS AND MINERALS (NIACINAMIDE, IRON [FERROUS SULFATE], THIAMIN MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE [VITAMIN B6], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], VITAMIN B12), SUCCINIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID, LACTIC ACID, BREWERS YEAST, TORULA YEAST, SOY LECITHIN.

  3. I'm in LOVE with the soy jerky from vegan esssintals website... i order it all the time! for alot of meat replacements go to

http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreF...  im in love with it!

  4. Morning Star burgers, Amy's for everything, veggie patch chicken nuggets, smart! chili, and linda mccartney dinners. I highly recommend Amy's. Great snacks, entrees and everything. I forget the brand but they have some really good "turkey" deli slices.

  5. Well, here in u.k we have tons of substitutes.

Quorn which is mushroom based but you can buy in the quorn range, chicken burger, fillets, chicken /mushroom pies, nuggets, beef style strips, mince, its all fantastic these days.

There's also the Linda McCartney range of similar products.

In the 70`s it was a nightmare,as it was basically

sosmix, which is like a stuffing type consistency that you can make into sausages.

The savour of a lot of veggies now has been Quorn products, they are mainly very low fat,and available at most supermarkets.

Even most supermarkets now are making their own ranges,so happy hunting. :)

Also, many health food shops like holland and barretts do fake pork pies and bacon streaky or back, you can get the bacon in supermarkets too.

  6. I use some veggie burgers, veggie dogs, and veggie sausages; but I consider them veggie junk food. I'd rather make something up from scratch using tofu, beens, seeds, nuts, and grains, eggs and dairy. From reading the posts on YA V/V it seems a number of vegetarians rely mainly on these fake meats. If your one of these I'd suggest getting a few good vegetarian cookbooks.

  7. snake grill.
