Meb Keflezighi prevails at 2011 Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon – Athletics Update
The 2004 Olympic Marathon silver medallist Meb Keflezighi made it to the top of the podium as he finished the 13.1 mile route in a brilliant time of 1:02:17 at the 2011 Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon in San Jose, California on October 2.
A pack of five runners was led by Keflezighi through the commencing mile and at the third mile mark he initiated the pace by running a series of sub-4:40 miles to own a distant lead on the rest of the competitors. This lead was to last all the way to the
finish line. This is the third straight victory for Keflezighi in this event.
Giliat Ghebray was runner up at two minutes behind Keflezighi’s time of 1:02:17. Sergio Reyes managed to take third place with a time of 1:04:20. Keflezighi said, “We ran a pretty quick first mile of 4:35 and then after that 4:50 and after that I picked
it up, I was making good pace. It is kind of tough to run on your own sometimes, but I am happy to be here and get a good tune-up.”
The crowd at the venue was supportive with cheers and admiration for some of the World’s best athletes in the discipline taking part in the marathon. However, the highlight by far was the tremendous performance by Meb Keflezighi. He managed to put in a brilliant
performance and dominate the event.
Keflezighi commented that the race was a good way to prepare for the upcoming ING New York Marathon scheduled to take place in November. Keflezighi also went on to comment that he enjoyed challenging himself and that he put great care and effort in trying
to stay in shape and remain healthy for future events.
The 36-year-old is also the first American in 27-years to have won the 2009 ING New York City Marathon, which has tied him with Mo Trafeh as the second fastest American Half Marathon finisher of the year.
If Keflezighi remains healthy, he will be looking to take more podium finishes in the season.
