Mebeverine hydrochloride (spasverin)?

I am on holiday in Cyprus and have been prescribed this for IBS. I have to take one 3 times a day before meals. Will I have to stay on this medication forever?

it depends if its helping your ibs then keep taking it contiue routine doctoe checkups for your ibs there is another medication called levsin that may help since there is no cure for ibs (yet) you may be on meds long term

Drugs can only prevent the spasms of the intestines that occur in IBS.

Usually after use for a week or two spasms may not recur for sometime. During that pertod you should continue taking the high fibre diet and may keep Mebeverine to be taken only when a recurrence occurs.There are other similar drugs that can be used

As there is an emotional factor in this disease total cure depends not only on antispasmodic drugs.
