Mechanical problems in aircraft cause four-hour delay for New York Mets - MLB Update
Already frustrated with their hectic playing schedule, a four hour delay at O'Hare Airport fuels the New York Mets' worries. Players are already complaining about finding little time for rest.
When it came out on Wednesday that aircraft has technical issues, they endured the reality of staying idle for a number of hours.
By the time they reached Los Angeles, they had little time to sleep.
Fortunately, the next game had to start at night, which gave them some extra time in the morning to have more rest.
While belated arrival was caused by problems in the plane, it became a reason about opening discussion relating to the kind of schedule players are battling with in the season.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins stepped up to express sympathy with fielders and hitters alike, who prepare themselves for every game and try to give their best regardless of the circumstances.
Similarly, he takes pride in having put up splendours number of times and achieved respectable position on the National League East Division table, despite facing all kinds of issues.
Currently, the Mets are taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Beating a team like this in the series will be a great morale booster. It will help them in many ways ahead in the long arduous season.
While they presently fall just below the Washington Nationals which is the top team on table at the moment, splendid performance against the Dodgers may land them in a position from where they can become a strong contender for leading the Division.
Meanwhile, Mets’ manager Collins calls the incident of the delay at the airport a frustrating one for the players.
However, he was happy that slight changes in the time later allowed the team to find moments for getting their preparations right for the game.
"Unbelievable," Terry Collins said. "Fortunately, we had a night game (Thursday), where the time change helped a little bit. Even though it is 1 o'clock in the morning when you get to your rooms, guys can get a basically regular night's sleep in."
Regardless of the time schedule, Mets cannot afford complacency at such a crucial juncture of the season.
Therefore, keeping their momentum high will play a pivotal role for their success in forthcoming games.
