Question:

Med School Dilemma!?

by  |  earlier

I got a D in my precalculus course and I am planning to retake but the D will always show on my transcript even if I retake it and got an A. Is there any way I could earse it from my transcript so it doesn't effect my future, and overall GPA.

And what are my chances of getting accepted to Med school. Have you been or ever heard of someone getting in with a similar dilemma?

Thank you in advance!

  1. I wouldn't worry to much about it as long as you rock your MCAT. Also you could consider going to a MED School outside of the country. My husband could not afford med school here in the USA so he went to the Dominican Republic where he studied Medicine and I am proud and happy to say he is graduating from his Pediatric residency in 2 weeks. He will be a practicing pediatrician in July.

  2. Just having a D present isn't going to rule you out.  Does your college have a "last grade stands" policy?  If so, that D will be factored out of your GPA, even if it's still available to be seen.

Even if you GPA isn't perfect, there are other things they look at.  They look at MCAT scores heavily, as well as any volunteer or research experience.  The interview is also quite important.  They aren't looking for just the best students, they are looking for people who will make the best doctors.

So ask yourself what they will be asking themselves about you:

    1)  Are you smart enough to handle the course work

    2)  Do you have the compassion and spirit to do the job

    3)  Do you WANT to be a doctor

  3. first you should retake the class and get an A.

review your college's rules on replacing a grade - some college's will remove the old grade and some wont. If you average an A 4.0 with a D 1.0 you are at a C+ 2.5 which is not great but at least its better - to help with this you should take some GPA boosting classes which you know you can get an A in preferably in the science department.

In the future if you feel like you cant get an A or B in a class after you started you should drop it or change it to credit/no credit so it doesn't affect your GPA. even if your school makes a W notation for dropping a class late it is better than a low grade and usually goes unnoticed.

pre calc is very important - you will need to have it down to help you in physics and chemistry which you will take a lot of.

    Good luck

  4. You need to ace your MCATs, thats it
