It seems Richard Farrelly felt that he needed to further emphasise on how Warfighter would be different from Battlefield 3 despite sharing the same engine.
In the previous part of this, www.dbuz.com’s special coverage of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, series the senior creative director at EA, Richard Farrelly, explained that their latest game would set itself apart from the brilliant Battlefield 3.
Again, both games are built on DICE’s FrostBite 2 engine, which is capable of delivering a jaw dropping gaming experience. Yet, according to Mr. Farrelly, Danger Close is using the engine to better suit their own needs.
“I think we have our own signature look; I think it looks a lot different from Battlefield even though it’s on the same engine.” Explained the senior creative director, before continuing, “It’s more intimate, but we still have some of the same elements that
they have like the micro-destruction and the amazing lighting.”
Farrelly’s reference to ‘micro-destruction’ is important because that is the major strength of the game engine. Not only can only bring down buildings if he deals enough damage, but cover also deteriorates over time; meaning that a concrete block or sandbag
can only provide so much cover for so long before it leaves the player exposed.
As for how the studio were working towards getting the most out of the FrostBite 2 engine, Farrelly explained that they had a number of people who previously worked for DICE on their payroll.
“We work very closely with them (DICE) and as I said, we’ve got some former members of DICE working with us.”
He also pointed out the fact that the game would look great on all platforms due to the way the FrostBite engine is designed.
“The great thing about Frostbite is its platform agnostic. You make one game and then you play to each of the platform’s strengths.” He highlighted how the game would rival others on PC when he said, “On Pc you have the high res textures...it looks like
a proper PC game.”
That is it for our coverage of Medal of Honor: Warfighter and so far the game sounds like it means business. Keep it here at www.dbuz.com for all the gaming news worth knowing.
