OXM spills the beans on the sequel to the reboot of Electronic Arts’ Medal of Honor series and the producer of the game confirms that Osama Bin Laden will not feature.
The Medal of Honor games were the most memorable World War 2 first-person shooters on the PlayStation One, though they lost their dominance as the PlayStation 2 and Xbox approached the end of their life cycles.
However, since the current generation of consoles took over the market, the Medal of Honor series has become second fiddle to Activision’s Call of Duty games.
EA seemed to have taken notice of that and decided a reboot of the classic series was in order. The result was the modern military first-person shooter, Medal of Honor. While the game was not as big a hit as EA would have liked it was a solid title, though
its similarities to the Battlefield: Bad Company games, especially in terms of multiplayer, let it down.
However, the game is back with a sequel and if the details in the latest edition of OXM US magazine are to be believed, the multiplayer component of Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be developed by Danger Close and not DICE.
The game is also said to be powered by FrostBite 2.0, the same engine that powered Battlefield 3, which is by no means a bad thing, especially if one sees the impressive visuals and gameplay elements of EA’s best selling shooter.
Voodoo, Preacher, Mother and other characters from the first game also make a comeback in the sequel that will have missions based on actual operations that have been carried out by real-life Tier 1 Operatives. It should be mentioned that this time the developers
are going for “authenticity” instead of “simulation”.
As for the Osama Bin Laden mission featuring in the game, Greg Goodrich, the producer of the game stated, “That’s not our story to tell. That’s ‘family business’ to (the Tier 1 Operators). It’s been an interesting exercise learning what’s okay and what’s
not okay (to portray in the game).”
The details are still not enough to satisfy everyone with gamers now hoping for a trailer or a glimpse of the gameplay before they decide whether or not they want to raise their anticipation levels for the game.
