Electronic Arts and Danger Close’s second offering of the reboot of the Medal of Honor series will bring a human side of being a Tier 1 Operator into play, by giving you...a wife.
Let’s be clear, Medal of Honor, is still a modern military first-person shooter that focuses on action first and foremost, yet the game wants to “drive home the fact that these are more than just guys with guns.”
Those were the words of Greg Goodrich, the game’s producer, who hopes to add an extra layer of depth to the genre by playing the action in the game off against the emotion brought about by the relationship that the game’s protagonist, Preacher, and his wife
back home.
Which means that While Jay-Z may have 99 problems, Medal of Honor: Warfighter will have the one problem that the rap and hip-hop star does not.
We catch a glimpse of that on the second trailer that was released for Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which Goodrich talks us through, “She’s saying, ‘I am trying to raise this family and I need help’. Clearly there is a struggle there and they have a choice
to make. Clearly, Preacher is a fighter. He doesn’t want to give up.”
Explaining the difference between the two games Goodrich summed things up when he said, “That last game (Medal of Honor) was about what those guys fought for on that mountain. This game is about what these guys fight for at home.”
The previous instalment in the Medal of Honor series received criticism on the fact that it resembled EA’s other first-person shooter series, Battlefield, to an extent that the two were near identical. Throw in the fact that both games were made on the same
engine and that DICE developed the multiplayer component as well, and one can why so many fans wanted something different.
Warfighter is being developed exclusively by Danger Close, who did a great job with the first game’s single-player campaign. One can only hope that they take things to the next level with the sequel and so far the game looks to be shaping up nicely.
It seems that EA are taking Medal of Honor seriously once again and who knows maybe Medal of Honor and Battlefield become the publisher’s equivalent to Activision’s Treyarch and Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty games.
