Danger Close hoping that EA and the publishers of the Call of Duty series don’t go at it as they usually did when Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 were in development.
There are many rivalries in the world of gaming; EA’s FIFA series has been duking it out with Konami’s Pro Evolution/Winning Eleven series, PlayStation and Xbox have been at it for ages and more recently, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
have had a go at each other.
For the developer of the second instalment in the reboot of the Medal of Honor series, Danger Close studios are hoping that EA and Activision do not indulge themselves in the war of words that made the headlines in the build up to and after the release of
Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3.
Activision boasted that they were more focused on delivering a game and not an ‘engine’, which was a direct reference to how EA kept boasting as to how powerful the FrostBite 2 engine, which powered Battlefield 3, was.
EA on the other hand promoted Battlefield 3 as the game that would take players “Above and beyond the Call”. The open ended statement had gamers instantly adding the words ‘of Duty’ and one can be pretty sure that is what EA wanted.
However, Greg Goodrich, who is the executive producer of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, hopes that things are more settled this time around despite the fact that Warfighter is set to release around the same time as Black Ops 2.
He said, “I think that because of our genre and the history of our franchise...it’s just a natural thing to want to go and pick a fight. (But) if you look at it, almost none of it came from the development team.”
The EP went on to elaborate, “EA is a very big organisation, and there are a lot of grown-ups and adults that manage things that are out of our control.”
He concluded that he did not want to remain modest about the fact their storyline was developed by actual Tier 1 Operators and that they would not use that when comparing the two games.
