  1. I believe that it is all their own opinion. We read the newspapers or see it on the internet and think, oh yeah, I agree with that. They're influencing the way we see everything in the world.

    Hope this helps lol

    =)

  2. Charlie, probably the best piece of journalism i've read for years is in the September issue of Grand Designs. It's by Kevin McCloud entitled " is luxury a dirty word ". Whatever you do, don't copy it or whoever is marking your essay will have serious doubts about plagiarism. Good luck.

  3. The media is half of the politics that run this country!

When they blow something out of proportion, it becomes important.

Like the Maddie case for example. thousand of kids go missing, but the cute one who looks good on the front page gets 50x the budget and help than anyone else.

..the aamericans think they're at war and are taking all sorts of precautions in the smallest most remote villages.. because a few soldiers exercising their muscle is more interesting to them than the problem of suicide rates going up or  something else that should be important.

  4. I think the media tells us what they want us to hear. They put their slant on everything. They focus heavily on the story of the moment, then they move on to something else. It's all about shock value and ratings. I always take what they say with a ton of salt.

  5. The media, redtops in particular, are nothing but troublemakers.  They love to sensationalise and if the truth slips into the story somewhere it's usually an accident.  You could say most of the scandalous stories they write are 49% exaggeration 49% imagination and 2% truth.

  6. I think one could make a case for saying they're not so much trying to influence our lives as trying to print what they think we want to hear. It's not in their interest to express something that will be unpopular after all - in many respects I think they try and target a particular social demographic and tailor their editorial around them.

So there's kind of a feedback loop in play to some extent - public opinion shapes what the media puts out, and media output reinforces public opinion. And then back to the start of the loop again.
