Media Appreciation Award presented to Laura Davies
The third-annual LPGA Global Media Awards presented by Rolex was held recently after the Evian Masters. In addition to journalists, both photojournalists and writers, Laura Davies was also presented with the Media Appreciation Award.
The award is given in appreciation of the efforts of the recipients in promoting media relations of the Evian Masters. Laura Davies has long been the favourite of the media and is often asked for a quick word between the holes.
The ceremony was held at the beautiful Hotel Ermitage and was conducted by the management of the Evian Masters. The event was attended by major sports news personalities and players who had come to honour their ties with the media.
The selection for the nominees was conducted by a group of prominent journalists who had simple criteria for selecting the player and the newspersons.
For the newsperson, it was the quality and quantity of the coverage of the recent golf events, including the Evian Masters. For players, it was about the relations that the players maintain with the press.
The jury was unanimous about Laura Davies. This is mainly due to the time that Davies usually gives to the press people both on and off the course.
She is much loved by the reporters, many of whom have only great things to say about the English golfer. Beth Ann Baldry of Golfweek Magazine is among her fans.
She said, “Laura Davies can fill a reporter's notebook in a three-minute chat. She doesn't shy away from controversial subjects and her humor lights up a column. It's obvious why reporters scramble to get a seat when she walks into the interview room. If
only she would Tweet more”.
Laura Davies is a phenomenal golfer who is much loved by fans for both her golf prowess and charming personality. She is often seen talking to fans on the golf course and is usually the first player to hand out autographs.
The award is a great initiative by the Evian Masters management. This effort will go a long way in improving the media relations and promoting the sport in general.
