Media drill makes rueful Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur concede mistakes – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ rueful coach Pat Shurmur has conceded some of his decisions in the past weekend game versus the visiting Baltimore Ravens did not pay them off but insisted that possession of the ball was important.
During the media drill in the post-game call, the second-year coach appeared to get himself excused on expectations of a battery of questions by the journalists but at the end came out with admission that he had made some controversial decisions on the day.
Pat said:
"What I would like us to do is execute, give him a better play and make it. I watched the game last night, the (New York) Giants punted in that situation and never saw the ball again. Being that we did get the ball back, yeah, I would consider doing something
different if I can guarantee I'm going to get the ball back."
He added:
"There were some decisions, when I look back on them now, of course, that don't work out. Then I'll say, `Well, you know what? Maybe we should have done something else.' That's what you do on Monday."
The coach said he will learn from those mistakes to avoid them in the future, although he failed to answer the queries about the team’s progression in rest of the regular season.
It is increasingly being witnessed that the Browns are losing their touch and there is sense of desperation and frustration among all members of the organisation even though they have tried their best to improve on from two wins in the AFC North.
So far neither offence and nor defence has produced a match-winning performance. Although new offence leader, Brandon Weeden since his first game, he is still unable to lead the team from the front.
The coach probably realises now that hiding behind the bench will not be a right choice for him and that he has to emerge on the surface and face the questions, no matter how bitter they are. He can hope the team do better in the rest of games but the chances
appear to be very remote.
