Media offered me big money to tell all says Zulqarnain Haider
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 to lead his side to victory, disappeared in mysterious circumstances before the team reached the stadium for their 5th and final
ODI against the Proteas. Following an anxious wait, he arrived at an airport in England and talked to the media, telling them that he was allegedly threatened by bookmakers to underperform or else bear the brunt of his decision to go against their wishes.
Now, in a statement made by him he has claimed that he turned down some lucrative offers from media to explain his reason for such a sudden departure from Dubai without informing the team or PCB officials. He wrote on his Facebook account that The News of
the World offered him enormous amounts of money to spill the beans on the actual story in detail however he turned down the offer saying that he spoke to them but did not take a penny for doing so.
"They offered me lots of money but I gave them the interview free of cost; but what was surprising was that they said it would be half an hour thing but it went on for one and half hour," Haider wrote. "They were trying to ask hard questions but I told them
they should talk to the ICC about it".
He apparently reached London the same day he disappeared and has now applied for asylum stating that his life might be in jeopardy back home. He also reportedly had a meeting with the Pakistan High Commissioner to UK, Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan and also contacted
PCB who have assured him of all forms of legal assistance and help.
He said that despite being offered money, he would not accept it and would prefer that the media companies give the same amount of money directly to different charities. "I don't want cash or anything in my hands they will pay to charity," he wrote.
