Mediators fail to bring about Change in Second Attempt -NHL Lockout Update
Federal mediators were brought into the scene for the second time straight but surprisingly, they failed to make a difference and actually mediate something between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association.
The two sides met with the mediators at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service offices, which was headed by mediator Scot Beckenbaugh, but it failed again to make the much needed difference when brought into the scene within two weeks.
"We met for about six-and-a-half hours today with the assistance of federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "The parties were never actually in the same room together. We did several different caucus meeting rooms. There
is nothing new to report.”
"We don't have a conclusion to the process. The players are doing something [Wednesday] night and they are going to get back to mediator Beckenbaugh [Wednesday] night and he will get back to us [Wednesday] night."
NHL Players’ Association executive director, Donald Fehr, came out as well and briefed the media on how no special outcome is to be reported, but he also pointed out that they will continue to stay in touch with the federal mediators, along with no set date
for another one in the near future.
All NHL 2012-2013 regular season games till the New Year have been cancelled and there is no telling what will come about after then. Some sources have even pointed out mid January as being the deadline to decide whether there will be any hockey player or
not and seeing how things are going, imagining a total lockout is not as hard as it once was.
The lockout has been going on for nearly three months now after the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end on September 15, 2012, despite talks having kicked off in June of this year.
There is now no news to further report on what could come about in the next couple of days as mediation has failed totally for the two stakeholders up until now.
Updates should be expected sometime next week as both sides get back together sometime next week.
