Our son had medicaid from 4 months to 20 months, because he was placed wit us (outside of hie biological family). When his adoption was final, we were told that he would be dropped because they would start considering our income.

That was a year ago. Today I got a new card. I call and they said that he was still eligible even though i never re-applied for it or gave They already had our income.

He has had 1 surgery and 30+ dr visits and dozens of tests. Our copay amounted to about $10,000. and counting.

Do you think the medicaid people are mistaken?

Would you still use it?

  1. I would think someone made a mistake.  If I were you I would completely check before using it because they will want their money back even if they made the mistake.

  2. he may still qualify due to his medical issues contact a social worker at the hospital

  3. Why not ask them (the State)?  Good luck to you and to your son.  Bless you for the adoption.

  4. Call them again and ask about the current information they have on your son.  Ask them if they are aware that you have adopted him.  Then ask them if they need your information since he has been adopted.

I would not use the card until you are certain they have the correct information, and you have verified that he is still eligable.  If he is not, and you are using the card, you may have to pay back what they have paid.  Also, depending on the situation, he may be eligable for SSI.  Ask about that too.  If he's not eligable for Medicaid or SSI, call the hospital and ask about local charities that can help.  Call the UNITED WAY.  They have a good list of people that can help you.

I wish you all the luck in the world.  Congratulations to you and your family for taking on such a loving responsibility.  :)

  5. Just say "no."
