I am 17 and am an aspiring trauma care doctor. I am looking for some medical books to read. Not exactly text books but something interesting. I have heard that Grey's Anatomy is good but a little dated. Any suggestions?

  2. In fairness, there are an awful lot of great books regarding trauma care, trauma surgery, care of the ICU patient, etc.  At your age, quite frankly, I'm not sure that providing you with a text regarding trauma surgery, for example, would be suitable, simply because such books assume that the reader has extensive medical training a priori.  If you wish to read some great books about fundamentals of medicine, I personally recommend Clinically Oriented Anatomy, by Dr. K. Moore, if you wish to have an atlas of human anatomy Dr. Frank Netter has a brilliant atlas, as does Dr. Grant.  For physiology Drs. A. Guyton and Ganong both have extremely highly regarded texts regarding human physiology.  If you are looking for a text of Pathology, Pathological Basis of Diseases, by Dr. Robbins, et al. is your best bet.  If these books are insufficient, consider the Sabiston text for general surgery or the Marino ICU book.  Personally, I wouldn't have known what to do with these books at 17 years of age, but perhaps you may fare better.

    Best of luck.

  3. Start by reading a PDR, the Physician's Desk Reference,  which is a health information resource featuring information on drugs, diseases and disorders.
