  1. I am currently taking Medical Coding through US Career Institute through the mail, they mail you the lessons , you do the tests and mail them back.

Once you complete the course , you sit for the test to get certified , once certified you can apply for work at hosptials, from home, and doctors offices.

Through the school , you make 20 payments at $59 a payment a month.  You get a medical dictionary of terms, the ICD-9 coding manual and the CPT manual .  The total cost is about 2,000 dollars.  There are also different levels of certification.

the website for the school is US Career Institute. Com, the school is in CO.

    Good Luck

  2. I know you will and are probably going to hear every which way to get cerified, but honestly if you wan to be taken seriously as a coder with great starting pay then you need to find a college probably a community college and get your Coding cert, through them. I DO NOT advise that you to try anything through the mail because alot of them are not accredited and the certificate they mail you isn't worth the paper its printed on. After you become certified as a coder you need to take a state certified coding exam to become licensed, the cert you get from college won't allow you to become a coder, just like if a person graduated form nursing school they still have to become licensed in the state they want to work. I am in college for my coding and transcription cert.  good luck and remeber if something sounds too easy or too good it is probably a scam.
