im 16, and going to be a juniorand im in accelerated classes. i want to become a Doctor in either internal medicine or nephrology. I wasnt sure if this was the path i wanted to take because i want to have a life outside work for family and friends and what not, but this is what i was thinking, and i have a few questions.

-finish highschool

-2 years prerequisites at home at community college

-2 years away at school, i was thinking penn state if available?

-4 years med school

-2 years internship/resident.

i was wondering how would i survive on little or no pay as an intern? how do people do it or go about it?

is this a viable option? Any suggestiosn or help/advice for this path? i feel worried that i wouldnt have a life as a doctor too see family or have a social life? Any people on this career path with advice? thanks

  1. residency is usuall 4 years or more. Don't do community college, it weakens your application and a few medical schools are picky about accepting the credit. Also, its harder to get scholarships from colleges if you are straight out of high school. You get paid well as a resident, about 40k a year. That's enough to live on, after all you'll be eating and sleeping mostly at the hospital anyway :D
