Question:

Medical advice for my toddler?

My toddler has an itchy rash on her head and this morning it has spread to her face and neck. Obviously I am taking her to see a doctor, but I was trying to google her symptoms before her appointment. I can't find anything specific. Any advice here?

  1. Depends on what it looks like -- all sorts of things cause rashes -- but my gut reaction was to wonder if it's some form of poison ivy/oak/sumac. Was she outside playing this weekend? More likely in woodsy areas, but could be in someone's back yard, the park etc. Since it's spreading and itchy it sounds like it could be.

Otherwise, probably an allergic reaction to something, new sunblock, bug protection, shampoo, soap, something else she came in contact with.

Slapped cheek rash, otherwise known as Fifth's disease, doesn't typically cause itchiness and the child usually gets a lacy rash on her trunk and limbs, in addition to the "slapped cheek" look on their face.

  2. she may have 'slap cheek' a common disease found in most children, nothing to worry about.

or she may of had an alergic reaction

  3. Reaction to shampoo ?

Slapped cheek is a rash that can be seen in the face like a lace pattern its easy to spot ..its most likely an allergy ...hope shes ok hun

  4. It sounds like a reaction to something. It could also be a form of heat rash.

My son came out in reb blotches all over his face and neck the other day. I took him to the doctor and by the time I got there they had disappeared and the doctor was unconcerned!

    Try not to worry.

  5. May be a heat rash or an allergic reaction. If she doesnt seem upset or fretfull about the rash im sure its nothing to worry about. Hope everything goes well : )

  6. sorry dont know just want to wish you look at the doctor

  7. Could be a type of allergy rash.

Also could be 'slapped cheek rash', medically known as Parvovirus. Very common amongst little ones and highly contagious, so keep her away from others until you have a diagnosis. Lots of people saying it's harmless, however it's very dangerous for pregnant women to come into contact with Parvovirus, if that's what it is, so make sure you tell the receptionist at your Dr's that your child has an unidentified rash and ask if you should both be isolated until your Dr is able to see you.
