  2. You can ask for financial assistance from all of your providers. Unfortunately, your parents income will also come in to play there as well. So if you don't qualify, you may ask for a cash discounted rate and see if they will allow payments. Then get a job or a second job to make those payments.

You now see that you need to get insurance, even if you are healthy, stuff happens. Find a job that offers health insurance as soon as you can...

  3. If you are 20 years old are you working?  Since you are living with your family and you are working then you should get with the medical center and work out a payment plan.  Just a little bit a month can build your credit and help your self-esteem.

Say $15.00 a month is a good start.

  4. Just because you think Social Services won't help, doesn't mean they won't. Try anyway.

Some hospitals, etc have programs for people that can help. Some will take your financial information and reduce or write off the amount, if you qualify. The amount of money an insurance allows is usually less than the amount of the actual charge. Some will discount charges for self pay patients to be on par to the insurances.

Go to a non-profit (one that doesn't charge) credit counseling agency, sometimes the can get bills reduced. Creditors will often do this because the next step you could take: Bankruptcy

There is, or was a medical bankruptcy if it is truly that out of hand.

On the small chance that the reason you can't pay is because your lifestyle (ex most of your paycheck is for your $600/mo car payment) you may need to scale down. Get a more reasonably priced car, etc. Talk to the medical offices to get payment plans to avoid collections. Sometimes you can pay as little as $25 a month, although usually the want at least $50. Remember this will be for each doctor.

Still apply for medical assistance for future, sometimes they have different programs that can help for certain things that would still be worth having.

It's easy to say you should pay for health insurance no matter what. But I have never see the ones scraping by saying that. Plus, here are fewer and fewer employers paying for health insurance.  Hopefully one day there will be universal health care.
