  1. Since you are planning to have another child, your premiums will be higher to include maternity coverage.

Determining health insurance rates involves a lot of factors, like health history, etc, so the best thing you can do is go online to some sites like insurance-rates-online.com or insureme.com and request free quotes.  You'll probably get some calls from insurance agents, but those will help you hone in on finding the policy with the coverage you need at the best possible price.

Some things you can do to save money are protect your current health (eat right, exercise, don't smoke), look for a higher co-pay amount and possibly a higher deductible amount, and see if you can eliminate any coverage items you won't need, like mental health coverage or substance abuse coverage.

Please extend our thanks to your husband for serving.

  2. Contact a local broker and have them run some quotes.

  3. You go to a local agent, to buy a health insurance policy.  If you want maternity benefits, it's basically a prepaid plan - you pay $300 a month extra, and have to wait 9 months before getting pregnant.

If you're 30 and healthy, a private, low deductible plan, is going to cost you about $300 a month.  Without maternity.

  4. When I was laid off I didn't want my family to go without insurance either, so I found a place online to sign up..  of course, there is always going to be an underwriting process involved and they might ask specific questions regarding plans on getting pregnant, etc.

BUT this is a good place to start checking into plans and pricing...
